PSYLLIUM HUSK SIDE EFFECTS

Always consult a physician before taking any dietary supplement. Some minor gastrointestinal discomfort may occur, such as gas or cramping. If this happens, reduce dosage. Those with existing digestive issues (such as Crohn's or IBS) should consult their doctor before using this supplement. Despite it being extremely rare, some individuals may suffer an allergic reaction to psyllium husk. If itching, swelling of the throat or rash appears, discontinue use immediately and seek medical help.

Because of its absorbency, psyllium husk may cause choking if an appropriate amount of water or liquid is not taken in tandem. Vomiting or difficulty swallowing and breathing should be addressed immediately by a health care professional. Always be sure to take at least 8 ounces of liquid with each dose.

Psyllium Husk

Benefits of Psyllium As it is high in soluble fiber, psyllium can help lower cholesterol as well as provide from relief from constipation and diarrhea. Because of the high fiber content, psyllium can also reduce the risk of heart disease. Psyllium husk is also used to increase the fiber content of foods. This is especially important as, according to the University of Maryland Medical Center and the Harvard School of Public Health, most Americans have a diet too low in fiber. Psyllium husk can also increase the feeling of fullness and slow down digestion. This can lead to fewer calories consumed and fewer blood sugar spikes after eating.
