What is L-Carnitine (HCL)?

L-Carnitine is a compound derived from an amino acid that is involved in metabolism in most mammals and plants. Carnitine is produced naturally by the body and exists in two biologically active isomers — L-Carnitine and D-Carnitine — which have drastically different effects on the body. L-Carnitine (not to be confused with D-Carnitine) is sometimes referred to as simply "Carnitine." This version of Carnitine includes hydrochloric acid (HCL) to improve absorption and digestion.

mixes well, tastes fine

I ordered this form of l-carnitine because it's better absorbed. I was afraid the taste would be a problem but I mixed it in with my morning yogurt and it mixed well and tasted just fine. I''m very happy with this.

Great Addition

L-Carnitine is great in addition to other ergogenics such as caffeine because of its ability to breakdown lipids within cells. L-Carnitine should be taken with a meal and typically post-workout or at night. L-Carnitine also has synergistic effects when taken with its acetyl form (NALT) which can pass the blood-brain barrier. NALT should be taken pre-workout on an empty stomach followed by L-Carnitine post-workout. I take my L-Carnitine with my post-workout protein shake. Total Carnitine consumption (NALT + L-Carnitine) not to exceed 3000mg daily. Personally, I take 1000mg pre-workout and 1000mg post-workout. Remember anything that has an acetyl group will taste like reduced vinegar i.e. acetic acid. Also, the acetyl group plays an important role in CoA regulation. Do your research!
