What Is Guar Gum Powder?

Guar gum powder (also sometimes called guaran) is a common, water soluble food additive that is extracted from guar beans (the seeds of the guar plant, Cyamopsis tetragonoloba). It is commonly used as a thickening agent in yogurts, ice cream, supplements, lotions, and creams. Guar gum powder has eight times the thickening potency as cornstarch and is high in fiber.

As a dietary supplement, take 1500 mg with 8 oz of water 30 minutes prior to a meal up to three times daily or as directed by physician. Drink immediately.

Good: fast USPS delivery


This is a GREAT thickener for hair conditioners & adds additional conditioning to your formulae. Note:You cannot use it in concert with xanthan gum, b/c xanthan is inactivated by cationics. If you choose to pre-dissolve it, (i haven't tried this yet, but it works with every gel & hydro-colloid i've ever worked with except carbomer powder), it will most likely do so very well in either vegetál glycerine or in your liquid oil fraction. By 'pre-dissolve', i mean 'disperse', b/c its not technically 'dissolving', but, w/a little stirring, this method absolutely eliminates clumps, lumps & 'boogers', & then, when you add your water fraction, it is smooth & thick & perfect! i don't yet know the usage rate/percentage, but will probably check lotioncrafters or makingcosmetics' sites for this info. affordable and fine

I use guar gum as ice cream stabilizer. I used to get the Guar Gum from other vendor, which was expensive and came with the bad flavor. This Guar Gum does not have offensive flavor. And I have nothing to complain about.

Guar Gum

We have been purchasing Guar gum for thickening cream cheese for one of our application we are using. That and the use of Xanthan are great additives to our products. It is very cost effective and stable in many applications.

I am really happy with the quality of the guar gum which I purchased. I am still learning to work with it because it is a little tricky to dissolve. Warm water does the trick, but I think it needs to be sifted in order not to form clumps. I have dropped into my eyes to great success in clearing up old infections.

Great for all sorts of things, particularly homemade ice cream!

I have been experimenting with food additives for some time now. After seeing things listed on every pre-made item in the store I started to wounder why they all used them and home cooks never did. So after looking up and ruling out the bad additives that will hurt you I started ordering and experimenting with the rest. Guar gum is one of the cheaper and more general purposed additives out there. By itself it does most things ok but it really works best when mixed with other additives. Xanthan gum is the king of all food additives. Not only is it in everything but I have yet to find something that it doesn't help in some way. Xanthan is a ultra powerful emulsifier with some thickening ability's as well. Guar has ok emulsification properties along with ok thickening ability's. Mixed together though they are far more powerful then either by themselves. One place guar gum really shines is home made ice cream, it DRASTICALLY improves the texture and mouth feel from icey and cold to light and fluffy and helps keep it from setting like a brick in the freezer. Now if you want the best home made ice cream then mix in some xanthan gum, guar gum and Gelatin and it will step it up yet another level. Now if I could just find some locust bean gum at a reasonable price to see how that works.... Bulksupplements guar gum is high quality and as good or better then any other brand I have used.
