Ginger comes from the same botanical family as cardamom and turmeric and has been used for thousands of years. The rhizome contains gingerol, a bioactive compound with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. Studies have suggested that ginger is notably successful in reducing nausea and similar stomach troubles like indigestion; there has been evidence that it can help with muscle pain and spasms as well. Although gingerol might also lower the risk of infection, this supplement is not intended to cure or prevent any illness.
