What are Branched Chain Amino Acids (BCAA)?

BCAA are essential amino acids and are referred to as branch chain amino acids because they have a chemical structure which separates them from the rest of the essential amino acid family. BCAA's make up 40% of total body protein content and represent around 15 to 25 percent of total protein intake overall. BCAAs are found in their greatest natural quantities in products such as red meat and many types of dairy. These BCAAs are at a ratio of 2:1:1 of Leucine, Isoleucine, Valine and are derived from corn.

3 Essential Amino Acids
  • Leucine is the product of protein hydrolysis by way of various enzymes present in the pancreas. This reaction is part of the overall digestive process.
  • Isoleucine helps stimulate the production and circulation of energy throughout the body.
  • Valine is essential in maintaining the structure of various proteins that it has been incorporated into.
Benefits

BCAAs are commonly taken by athletes and body builders as muscle-building and endurance supplements. BCAAs work with protein to help build strength and assist with muscle recovery after strenuous workout and may promote muscle endurance.

BCAAs may also help support healthy blood sugar levels, maintain healthy weight, and support the liver

Corn

Sugar, soy, dairy, yeast, gluten and additives.

As a dietary supplement, take 1500 mg three times daily. Individual needs vary. For best results, use prior to workouts.

Serving Size & Timing

A single serving of BCAA supplement is around 1500mg of the powder, which is to be administered three times a day (more or less depending on intended effect). The more athletically inclined will usually use more than this, but any deviation from the suggested serving size should be discussed with a health care professional beforehand.

This supplement should be consumed 30 minutes before any exercise or 30 minutes afterwards. Taking it with a meal is generally preferable, as it may help eliminate any feelings of nausea that may come with the taking of the supplement. Suggested serving size aside, anyone that takes more than 400mg at once should be prepared to handle the bitter taste, regardless of how well mixed it is with another food source.

CONCENTRATION OF BCAAS

The blend of ingredients that has found to be most effective for this supplement is a mixture of 2:1:1 of Leucine, Isoleucine and Valine, respectively. This product contains an insignificant amount of lecithin. Supplements should be stored in an area that is both dry and cool and away from the light.

Amino acids have a grainy look and a white coloration. They are bitter in taste and are totally insoluble. The powder can be administered effectively by sprinkling on a meal, but since it is so bitter, the most common preference is to blend the supplement into some kind of smoothie or fruit-based puree.

BCAA SIDE EFFECTS

People that introduce BCAAs into their system too rapidly have reported experiencing fatigue, muscle stress and muscle pains; this should subside if introduced in smaller amounts and over time, rather than all at once. Although there are no known drug interactions associated with the supplement, it may be wise to first discuss use with a physician. This supplement should be taken in lower doses than recommended if liver and kidney issues are of a concern.

TIPS

During exercise, it is common to consume BCAAs combined with a fast-release carbohydrate such as dextrose or maltodextrin. This is designed to prevent fatigue and thus improve athletic performance. This product also stacks well with l-glutamine; together they form an unbeatable muscle-preserving duo.

SAFETY

Branched Chain Amino Acids have been well researched and are a safe supplement. We already consume them daily in our natural diet, and there is no known toxicity of Branched Chain Amino Acids. In addition, there are no known bans or restrictions in regard to supplementing with Branched Chain Amino Acids.

There is no guarantee of specific results and results can vary.

Recommended for Beginners for PRE/POST Workout Energy & Recovery

This was my first amino acid ever purchased, and I dont regret it at all. When I first started taking this, I just drank it with a gatorade post workout and INSTANTLY I felt the energy on my body and brain go up! Since then I have done more research and have found EAA's to be more efficient in recovery and energy. This supplement is still great and in fact I ordered more and mix it with my EAA's. Great product, will definitely give you an extra edge in the gym, and help you maintain energy after.

Great product!

Seems to work very well for pre-workouts. I definitely notice when I forget to take it. Would be much nicer if a scoop was included though. Makes getting an accurate dosage a bit tricky if you don’t have measuring scoops.
