What is Cocoa?
Cocoa comes from the seeds of the theombroma cacao tree native to the deep tropical jungles of North & South America. The trees produce orange fruit that contains 20-60 seeds. The seeds, commonly referred to as beans, are used to make cocoa, cacao, and chocolate. Cocoa is made by pressing the seeds to remove the fat, then roasting them at high heat. Cacao is made by cold-pressing and is not roasted.
Cocoa is loaded with health benefits. It is full of flavanols and may contribute to brain health and help boost cognitive function. It contains polyphenols and has anti-inflammatory properties. Cocoa supports cardiovascular and heart health, and may help maintain healthy blood pressure when taken in conjunction with exercise and a healthy diet. Cocoa is also rich in antioxidants, contains theobromine, an alkaloid similar to caffeine, and may help boost energy.
