What is Calcium Citrate?
Calcium is an essential mineral that the human body cannot produce on its own that helps fortify the bones & teeth. Because the human body cannot produce calcium, it's necessary to acquire it through diet. Calcium citrate is a type of calcium salt that is commonly used to add a tart flavor to food, soften hard water, and as a calcium supplement. Calcium citrate can be used as an alternative for calcium carbonate for people who have sensitive stomachs.
Calcium fortifies the bones and teeth and may help maintain healthy blood pressure. It may also help support healthy hormone levels. Calcium citrate may also support healthy digestion.

Serving Size & Timing
Natural foods will always be the best source of Calcium, but as far as this supplement is concerned, it is best to take about 2400mg of Calcium Citrate at a time, once or twice per day. Because this compound is made up of 21% Calcium, having a 2400mg serving size will result in an overall amount of 500mg of pure Calcium being consumed per serving, which is about half of the FDA-recommended daily value of 1000mg. These values are slightly adjusted for age and certain conditions. For example, it is recommended that infants have about 600mg per day, children under four should take 800mg and women who are pregnant (especially those who are nursing) should take 1300mg per day.
If you are already taking antacids that contain Calcium or any other kind of medication with Calcium, a physician should first be consulted before use. Excess intake could eventually decrease its effectiveness and dilute stomach acid, causing it to improperly dissolve these medications. If you have had kidney stones in the past, parathyroid disease or take any other antacids or Calcium supplements, you should discuss this product with your doctor before beginning a course.
CONCENTRATION OF CALCIUM CITRATE
There are no fillers in this solution of Calcium Citrate. It is vegan friendly and should be stored in a dry, dark and cool area.
CALCIUM CITRATE SIDE EFFECTS
There are no harmful side effects to consider when taking Calcium Citrate supplements unless overdose occurs. Those that go beyond the recommended daily value up to 2.5 grams could cause an imbalance in bodily mineral storage. Minor side effects which may result from overdose could include irregular heartbeat, headaches, stomach upset and increased frequency of urination.
Calcium Citrate has a high bioavailability, and it is recommended that it be taken with Vitamin D supplements or in Vitamin D-rich juices, since this will increase its effectiveness and maximize its absorption. Calcium Citrate does not dissolve well in water, but when taken with a cold citrus juice like orange juice or lemonade, its solubility will increase significantly.
One of the largest sources of Calcium is in dairy, with just one small serving of dairy containing about 300mg, or 1/4 of the total daily value for Calcium. However, Calcium is also found in many other natural sources such as seaweed, nuts, legumes and quinoa.
