Potassium Iodate is a compound that is a mixture between Potassium base and Iodic acid. The supplement is meant to be taken to replenish deficient individuals with their necessary daily allowance of Iodine.

You may be familiar with Potassium Iodate as it is used all the time in the manufacture of iodized salt. About 60mg of the chemical are sprayed on every ton of salt. This can also be found as an ingredient in disinfectants and deodorant as well as some types of medication.

Potassium Iodate Side Effects

As long as suggested amounts are adhered to, this supplement should be fine, but it does have its share of possible side effects associated with it nonetheless. This supplement has the potential to result in rash, headache, respiratory problems including coughing and wheezing, overactive Thyroid gland, weight loss, stomach upset, heat intolerance, irritability, and unnatural thickening of the skin, particularly the skin located on the face.

There are a few conditions that may not work so well with Iodine supplements unless specifically told to take supplements by a doctor. If you have any of the following conditions, please speak with a doctor before taking Iodine. These include: Hyperthyroidism, Iodine sensitivity, Autoimmune Thyroid disorder, Dermatitis Herpetiformis, or an enlarged Thyroid.

If you are taking Amidarone, Lithium, Warfarin, or any medications designed to treat Hyperthyroidism, do not take this supplement without express permission from a doctor to do so.
