Pine Bark Extract Powder
Pine Bark Extract contains Proanthocyanidin, which is a bioflavonoid and another type of antioxidant. This particular extract is derived from the Pinis Massoniana tree. Antioxidants are very important to the body because they are able to protect healthy cells from harmful free radicals.
There are many antioxidants out there that perform the same actions as Pine Bark Extract with varying degrees of success. Some of this extract’s peers include Vitamins A, C, and E as well as Selenium. However, the Oligomeric Proanthocyanodins (OPCs) present in Pine Bark Extract are some of the most potent forms of antioxidants that can be found in nature.
This product is Kosher certified.
Health Benefits Provided by Pine Bark Extract
Pine Bark Extract is not only used as an antioxidant. It also has properties that allow it to repair collagen tissue, a type of protein which is the main component that forms blood vessels, connective tissue and skin.
Pine Bark Extract is more effective as an antioxidant than even Vitamin C and E, the two vitamins generally used for their properties as antioxidants. Pine Bark Extract is more efficient because it can be absorbed by the body in less than 20 minutes, and its effects can last for up to three days. However, Pine Bark Extract actually works well when combined with Vitamin C to help the body recycle and reuse Vitamin E. One more advantage of this particular antioxidant is that it is one of the few that has the ability to pass through the blood brain barrier.
This supplement is mainly prized for the high quantity of OPCs in it. Many daily activities such as smoking, being exposed to the sun for too long or simply eating something that is less than perfectly healthy will cause free radicals to proliferate. In order to get rid of these, antioxidants such as Pine Bark Extract must be consumed.
Some studies suggest that Pine Bark Extract may be an immune system booster; however, these claims have yet to be fully substantiated. Because OPC's are hard to consume at recommended levels through mere dieting, it is generally recommended that a supplement such as Pine Bark Extract be taken regularly to make up for that.

Red yeast rice was recommended to me around 12 years ago by my various physicians (at that time I was a most pathetically sick and morbidly overweight senior citizen with definitely 1 foot in the grave). Staten drugs and my body didn't get along, so my various physicians said I should really consider taking Red Yeast Rice to normalize issues in my body.
Faithfully, I remained on the red yeast rice. But, I also had Bariatric surgery and lost 145 lbs. in 2004 and another 30 lbs. 1 year ago. Total weight loss is an astounding 175 lbs! How’d that happen? My thyroid initially went wacko in 1999 because I was caring for my elderly very sick and medically-challenged mother, and my stress level was simply unmanageable. The weight piled on. The 30 lb. reduction I experienced 1 year ago was because one of my physicians thought my thyroid medication level was too high, so he demanded (and won) that I do a 300% reduction in the Synthroid dosage.
My thyroid went into free-fall and I dropped 30 lbs. in 2 months and had other horrific intestinal issues as well. That doctor is off my radar screen forever. I even had to have a fruitless colonoscopy, an almost $8,000 surgical procedure and almost 6 months of medical living hell!
I am now of normal weight, but my body is 50% malabsorptive because I have a small egg-size pouch for my stomach because my small intestines were 80% removed with the Bariatric surgery. Therefore, I can only consume less than 1,000 calories daily. But, now I truly am a healthy and happy senior with excellent health.
The only physicians I have now, is my Cardiologist for the pacemaker put in my body in 2008, and my primary care doctor (a DO), who tends to my under-active thyroid since he is also an Internist. I have no need for the multiplicity of doctors I used to have.
Because of my small pouch for a stomach, I rely on juicing with my Vita-mix every plant and fruit I can juice including the pith and skin of fruits: I can drink more than I can eat. But, because I can only have less than 1,000 calories daily, I must rely on powdered supplements to ensure my nutrition remains complete and balanced. I am so grateful I found www.BulkSupplements this last spring. I just wish their powder supplement list were larger.
The cardiologist is thrilled with my dramatic health change but continues to recommend I take red yeast rice. After all, I AM a senior citizen! Up until last fall, I truly tried my best to take the red yeast rice but I had challenges always finding a reliable source for the product. So, I’d sometimes not take this product.
Yet, last October I commenced an exhaustive, cutting-edge, Epigenetic nutritional therapy course, to better understand how thoroughly our scientific knowledge of nutrition has changed since the 1990 -- 2003 Human Genome Project undertaken by a substantial number of nations, including France, England, the United States, etc. That project birthed a new science called Epigenetics!
This course defines how food alters our gene expression and body chemistry. I am learning that what scientists and the consuming public knew before 2003 is absolutely obsolete! Now, it is with great gratitude I see that various mainline prestigious medical hospitals and doctors are adapting readily to the new science and technology. And, incredible positive results are regularly occurring. When I complete my course of study, I plan to become a licensed practicing nutritional therapist.
As part of my course of study I learned about Pycnogenol (puh-naw-gen-nol) which is also known as French Maritime Pine Bark Extract. It is labeled as the most powerful super-anti-oxidant anywhere. THAT got my attention, and I commenced my independent research. I ultimately purchased French Maritime Pine Bark Extract through www.Amazon.com because the price was reasonable. The price for the Trademark-protected Pycnogenol Pine Bark Extract (made from the same French Maritime Pine tree) is very pricey.
Please do read this review. www.Amazon.com/French-Maritime-Pine-Bark-Extract.
In April 2015, I was commencing to learn about BulkSupplements.com and for my first purchase, I purchased 1 K of Pine Bark Extract from this company. Initially, I simply wanted to see how it compared with the one I purchased from Amazon.com. I had been looking for the Chinese variety of Pine Bark Extract and was thrilled to find it at BulkSupplements.com. The one at Amazon.com is from France.
Within the next 2 weeks, I will be writing my review of this product for www.BulkSupplements.com. The results I’ve experienced with the Pinis Massoniana tree native to China and solely available through www.BulkSupplements.com is not part of this review. Why? I was still taking the French Maritime Pine Bark Extract, which I had purchased through Amazon.com.
I was taking 900 mg. of the French Maritime Pine Bark Extract (1/4 tea. 2 times a day) and had been doing so since October 2014. I also started to again take the Red Yeast Rice pills. I started with a tiny minuscule dosage; but, what happened?
Within 1 day I broke out in a horrendous rash over my entire body! I immediately recognized that the French Maritime Pine Bark Extract was thoroughly taking care of my anti-oxidant needs eradication all those miscreant free-radicals, and it absolutely wasn’t necessary to take any more Red Yeast Rice, no matter how small the dosage. I immediately discontinued taking the Red Yeast Rice, contacted that company and since they have a 1-year return policy (www.PuritansPride.com) I returned all the bottles to them and got my money back.
What I am also saying, is because I am reading all the comments listed by folks at this site, www.BulkSupplements.com, I am thinking that some folks may be a little careless (like I was). I believe it is always important to check with your health-care professionals (or become very knowledgeable through your own extensive research) before simply diving into taking any product – especially any anti-oxidants! You may be overdosing and not even knowing it!
Bottom line? If you are not taking Pine Bark Extract, whether it be the bark from the French Maritime Pine Tree or the Chinese Pinis Massoniana tree) and taking Red Yeast Rice relying on its anti-oxidant capabilities of destroying free radicals in your system, then, under moderation you might be OK. If you are consuming either of these Pine Bark Extracts from their different Pine trees, beware and don’t overdose, or also take Red Yeast Rice, or any other anti-oxidant for that matter, unless you receive the approval from your health-care professional, and monitor your results carefully. I’m thinking that the Pycnogenol (aka Pine Bark Extract) super-antioxidant capabilities may simply be replacing the need for many of the other supplements. But, I’m still using other supplements which say they are anti-oxidant, and to date -- except for the Red Yeast Rice suppliant, I have not experienced any negative side effects. In fact, my health keeps getting better and better.
In a nut-shell? Daily dosing on Red Yeast Rice is great, but supplementing with the Amazon.com French Maritime Pine Bark Extract is superior. What about www.BulkSupplements.com Pinis Massoniana Pine Bark Extract? I’ll be posting my review within 14 days.

The BulkSupplements Pine Bark Extract is very pure, containing 95%
proanthocyanidins. I have been using pine bark extract for over a year and have found that it improves circulation especially in my legs. It also lowers inflammation and I notice improvement in my joints and knees. It is also supposed to be good for glycation and I mix 1/8 tsp of pb extract with Cinnamon powder in protein shakes to help control blood sugar.
My prior source for this product contained fillers and was not as fresh tasting as this product, which has a slight pine resin flavor--pleasant.
I will definitely purchase this product again.

I bought this extract because research shows effectiveness in boosting hyaluronic acid levels/moisture levels in skin. I am both using it topically and internally and it seems to be working. There is no taste and it is easy to put into smoothies without altering the flavor.

After my last purchase, I was invited to choose and review this free package of BulkSupplements Pure Pine Bark Extract Powder (100 grams).
I have decided to examine every area of improvement that this pine bark extract (PBE) is supposed to provide and see if it is really doing anything for me.
1. ADHD: People have said that instead of taking one of the methylphenidates, such as Ritalin or Adderall, which are hardcore "class II" narcotics like cocaine or amphetamine, individuals should consider taking a natural alternative such as PBE. According to clinical trials recorded on MEDLINE, PBE has demonstrated reduced oxidative stress, improved cognitive and mental performance, and increased attention in students w/ADHD.
I did not have attention problems until after the seventh grade, but I did graduate from college at the age of 32 (BSEE). I notice that a double dose, 500 mg, of PBE does produce a more fevered style of concentration. I can accomplish much more, especially the unpleasant tasks, and I happily take this amount when I have to get a lot done. Backing off to the normal dose of 250 mg recommended by BulkSupplements, I don't feel fevered or different, but I am still getting more done these days. Sometimes I don't take any supplements at all (for several days), and here I notice how great it feels to lay around in bed, and it is definitely different than when I take a normal dose of PBE.
2. Younger Looking Skin: According to MEDLINE, a nutrient mix consisting of PBE, vitamin C, E, alpha lipoic acid, zinc, selenium, amino acids, and blueberry extract significantly improves and lightens normal skin, photo-aged skin, age spots, melasma, UV damage, as well as ameliorating inflammatory skin disorders and visible signs of aging.
I was born with less than really healthy skin: too many dark spots on my hands, face, arms, etc. My parents were health-food nuts and I have always taken vitamin pills and eaten a very low-carb diet all my life. However, I didn't know anything about larger doses of magnesium, ubiquinol, probiotics, vitamin D3, K2, sublingual methyl-B12 or proanthocyanidins. (I have also been taking DMAE-bitartrate and astaxanthin, both of which also lightens the skin and improves ADHD health.) I was recently standing up in the very hot summer sun beating down on my bare shoulders without sunblock or lotions of any kind for over two hours. Absolutely no damage or stress on my shoulders at all. Even the scars on my shoulders, which are still visible from an extremely bad sunburn as an infant, did not show any stress.
3. Improved deep vein blood flow: According to MEDLINE, PBE prevents venous thrombosis and thrombophlebitis and greatly reduces chronic venous insufficiency and venous microangiopathy as well as the cramps and muscular pain common in diabetics and claudicants.
I have often been bothered with sleeping or sitting on my legs wrong and then having a deep limping muscle pain for months maybe. Not in the last year, however. The last time it happened I took L-arginine. The pain disappeared in a day. (Some of the PBE clinical trials were combined with l-arginine.) Even with no more l-arginine, There has been no recurrence in the past year.
4. Anti-inflammatory: Reduces pain in osteoarthritic joints. Reduces Cox-1 and Cox-2 enzymes.
I have had back pain for the last six years or so. It waxes and wanes. NOTHING gets rid of it. Over the last year, it has diminished, but it is still there. I have noticed that doing sprints in the morning makes the back pain and stiffness disappear immediately in the first few feet of the first sprint and stay gone all day, sneaking back at the end of the day very slightly.
I had hoped that PBE, by reducing the Cox-1 and Cox-2 enzymes, might help me with headaches that I get every couple of weeks before getting up in the morning. Nothing else has ever worked except three pills of aspirin. But I am afraid of aspirin. It may have given me tinnitus. I bought this PBE to get rid of the tinnitus. Nevertheless, the PBE doesn't work for headaches - or tinnitus, either.
I have discovered in the past week after getting another headache that a large dose of niacin makes the headache go away immediately. How about that? Medline lists two clinical trials that show that niacin alleviates migraine headaches. Could be a fluke.
There are many more categories of PBE improvement, but they are not germane to me.

I had a hard time finding this, since I was searching for Pycnogenol, but I am glad I did. I have been easing into a dosage, so not really certain of how it is working, , but I anticipate good things based on the other reviews. It seems to be potent.

I'd wanted to combine grape seed extract and pine bark extract for years, but the PBE was too expensive. So it's wonderful to to finally be able to get it, with no fillers, at a great price.
BTW, I love the astringency that just 1/16 teaspoon of each gives to too-sweet drinks like Kombucha.

Sooo glad I decided to try this product! Pine bark extract has numerous proven/ well-studied health benefits. Looking forward to seeing how it diminishes fine lines/ wrinkles and spider veins with long term use. I love knowing that I'm taking such a powerful supplement. And as usual... Bulk Supplements is providing it at such an excellent cost for such a pure extract. It's a great -- and equally as beneficial -- alternative to the high-priced patented Pycnogenol (pine bark extract). Try this one folks!

I bought this to see if it would help with the circulation problems in my legs and the neuropathy in my feet. I put them into capsules and started taking two a day. It took about a week before I noticed any improvement. I started feeling a warming feeling in my legs, like the blood started flowing again and the pain greatly minimized in my feet and legs. Still hard to walk right but more comfortable. It wouldn't last permanently but over the last week the effects are lasting longer. Swelling in feet is less severe and seems to happen less. Glad I gave this a try. Everything the doctors had me on or tried on me always made it worse and caused other problems, this seems to actually work with no apparent side affects.

Has a strong, piney, astringent taste -- which is to say, it tastes fresh and unadulterated. With pine bark's long history and solid backing in terms of research, this is a great way to get it, and the quality here is superb.
